Derek Wilcox: Strong(ish) Garagebell Chronicles 8-15-16 PR Squat going into the meet.

[wa-wps]

I’m currently training to qualify and compete at the XPC Finals at the Arnold. I am transitioning my training right now away from weightlifting into powerlifting and hope to change the all time record books once again.

This is the week I affectionately refer to as “death by barbell”  where I intentionally over reach with some really heavy reverse band work before tapering into the meet.  This week’s squats went pretty well but bench was handicapped from super sore elbows.  After the carbless cutting process and some recovery I should be all better come meet day!

Heavy Lower Day (Warm ups – Empty bar squats, rotational hip stretches, TFL stretch, bird dogs and shoulder mobility)
– PL Squat in full armor. up to 965lbs and 1055lbs reverse mini band (50-60 off in bottom)
Since the lightest part of this lift was my meet PR I’m pretty happy with it.  Should set me up for a good squat on meet day and hopefully a shot at the record books.  Never know just what will happen on meet day though!

Murdered after the squats, stopped there.

Heavy Upper Day (Warm-ups-shoulder mobility, chin-ups)

– Shirted Bench Press Inzer Phenom up to 535×1 (almost touch) and then tried 565 to a 1 board but elbows refused to function after that first lift.

Blood flow work followed with anything that didn’t hurt.

Time to drop some weight and get ready for the meet!
