I won’t speak for Brian, nor am I a PT, but my opinion is that you should focus on fixing your back.
The body can only recover from so much at a time, it can only handle so much stress. So if you are draining recovery resources to bench, it might be taking away from and slowing down your back recovery.
In the long term, I think you will be better off taking down time and focusing solely on healing.
