I personally take my air at the top of the set-up, before I get down to the bar. In between reps, I sip air at the bottom. I find this is the best way to stay braced in the core and never lose my lifter’s wedge. There is also some evidence showing breathing through the nose can impact the bracing mechanics. I have been unable to master this, but it is a work in progress. Whichever you choose, make sure to practice on all lifts and make it habit.
