Bye, Bye, Byrdie

Team Samson has gotten a little lighter in membership over the past few weeks. One of the members that left us is Jonathan Byrd who recently became the head high school football coach at his alma mater. Jon is an accomplished lifter and a great coach that will likely be irreplaceable. We wish Byrd and Liz the best of luck in N.C. and hope to see him back at Samson from time to time.

There were only six of us squatting on Saturday with Brian out of town. Clint began prepping for a meet in April or May. Jason and Shane were deloading, Felipe is still dealing with a dead glute, and I am dealing with a non-functioning hip. Adam has returned to training and is looking strong. Clint worked up to 630 for two singles. Belt squats, various weighted carries and the McGill big 3 were done.

Brian was back on Monday, but on a deload. Adam and I worked up to 375 for a raw double on bench. Clint hit easy doubles at 415. We then worked close grip off of three boards. Incline DB press, grenade ball extensions and lots of band flies were done after.

Team Samson was founded by Adam Driggers who built the Team Samson compound. Some of the biggest names in powerlifting have trained with Team Samson including Dondell Blue, Al Caslow, and Gary Frank. What began as a small group of members has grown into an accomplished team of lifters that continue to chase after new strength gains. Team Samson is made up of pro lifters Brian Carroll, Clint Smith, and Jonathan Byrd along with lifters in various stages of their lifting career including Adam Driggers, Keith Price, Filipe Gusmão, Mike Holman, Paul Key, Shane Ford, Shane Shepperd, and Tony Garland.
