Byrd: Week 5 Squats

Saturday made exactly 5 weeks out from the Battle on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. I will be lifting in the 275 class for the second time. I have some high hopes for this meet, I just need to come in healthy and continue to stick to the plan.

Brian and I traveled down Thursday morning to Charleston SC for a seminar at Low Country Strength. It is always a pleasure to be a part of these seminars, but even more so when the person who has brought you in is a friend. I have known Will for several years now, going back to meets held in the Myrtle Beach area. He is a very knowledgeable guy who has an amazing gym in Charleston.

We all got together Friday for some heavy squats. My goal was to work up to a certain number and felt good to reach that mark, but my body had other plans. All weights moved great, but the training session just took too long. The risk of injury after a 5 hour training session was just too much for me to push another set. I will take that number this week at Samson and set myself up well for the meet being 4 weeks out then.

Warm ups felt like shit! I slept on my hip wrong (my left one, not the injured one) and this made depth suck as well as some very sharp pain.

Everything moved great, and really makes me wonder where my squat is at! We will find out in 4 weeks!

Good time squatting at Low Country as we prepare the seminar this weekend. Worked up to 1005 with solid speed and called it there. Will push for one more set next week at 4 weeks out!
