Dan Dalenberg | Bench | 4 weeks out

On October 29th, I will be lifting in my second ever multi-ply meet. I will be lifting in Danny Dague’s RPS meet in Columbus, Ohio. Brian Carroll has handled all of my off-season and contest prep training since the Arnold and will continue to guide me through the meet.

1. Bench

Plan was to take my opener to either 1/2 board or touch, then 1 board 2nd attempt and finishing with a 2bd 3rd attempt.

Brian left it up to me whether to touch or not on the first set.

I wanted to touch. I’ve successfully touched in a properly fitted bench shirt once so it made sense to me to work it down again. The last inch is the most difficult after all.

Started with 585 and got hung up. Bumped it up to 605 and came about 1/2 board away. Decided that this is the new opener. No sense in killing myself to bring the bar down.

By this point I was beat. Squatting Monday and 2 pretty heavy presses in, I was exhausted. Skipped the 1bd set and went to 675 to a 2 board. Didn’t have it, just too much weight right now.

Finished with…

Close Grip Floor Presses

Hammer Curls

Rope Pressdowns

Chest Fly
