Dan Dalenberg | Last SQ/DL

On October 29th, I will be lifting in my second ever multi-ply meet. I will be lifting in Danny Dague’s RPS meet in Columbus, Ohio. Brian Carroll has handled all of my off-season and contest prep training since the Arnold and will continue to guide me through the meet.

1. Squat– Last warm up and opener with a band

Worked up through 750 or so, then added a reverse light band for my 850 opener. Everything was good, felt on point. Had the suit, straps and wraps cranked pretty tight the whole way.

Note on the Black Beauty Wraps: I love them.

I’ve worn a lot of wraps over the years, predominately 3 different ones.

First, Metal Blacks: I liked the softness, the stretch and thickness. What I didn’t like was that I had to pull them incredibly far to get the to cast on and be tight. This didn’t matter when I was first starting out, but as I got more accustomed to wraps the extreme stretch of these wraps was annoying and I wanted to switch.

Next was Overkill: Stiffer, easy to cast and still good stretch. Big downsides was these are super thin, very abrasive and actually acquiring a pair was beyond difficult. Lead times were ridiculous. I’m pretty sure you can’t buy them at all anymore.

I’ve kind of been in limbo for a bit. I’ve been using the single layer gripper wraps lately but wasn’t going to commit to them until I got to try these new ones.

The Black Beauty wrap: Similar in stiffness/stretch to the Overkill wrap. These are a stout wrap that don’t take much to get a good cast, good strong stretch. Thicker too, which I like with my now wider stance (more material building up behind the knee). They are also much softer, so much more comfortable to wear and wear extremely tight. I really like them. I’m confident that anyone who likes a cast style knee wrap or has used the Overkill wrap and liked it, will really love these. It takes all the things I liked about OK and improves on them with an easier to use/wear material.

2. Deads– Last warm up

3 singles. 315, 405, 495. Done. Tight suit on all reps to get more practice. And that’s it! Squat and dead are finished up till the meet.
