Dan Dalenberg | Offseason Update

I recently lifted in the Lexen Xtreme Fall Classic, where I totaled 2255 via 885/650/720. I will be doing a short, 5 week off season before starting contest prep for the 2017 Arnold XPC meet.

Last Couple Weeks

My offseason got majorly derailed recently. While on business internationally, my 5 year old basset hound dawg got very sick. He hadn’t eaten or drank for a day and half so my wife took him to the vet to learn that his kidneys were failing.

Thankfully, I was able to move my travel plans around and make it back. He wasn’t responding to conservative care so we went with a more progressive treatment plan. Unfortunately, while his kidneys started to come back up, the rest of his body started to quit. He had simply experienced too much trauma and his body was giving up. On December 4th, we made the decision to euthanize him as it was the only humane, dignified option that we had left. He passed very peacefully, with my wife and I both there.

Its been a tough couple weeks since then. Titus was a big part of my life. He was there for a lot of big firsts. My first full time job, my second full time job, two promotions, my engagement, marrying Chelsea and buying our first house. Him not being around anymore has been tough to swallow, but I am grateful that I had the time with him that I did.

Like all dogs, he was the best dog. I miss him greatly.

Training

Some good, some just ok, a few really really bad ones.

I may have thrown a fit and tossed a tripod across the gym after a horrific deadlift session. I did manage a decent squat session this week, taking 600×2 in briefs and an OK bench session with 545 off 2 boards for doubles. I need a little time to get my mind right and focus but each day gets a little better.

Right now

I’m in Austin, TX about to head to Austin Simply Fit to finish up my off season. Next week I’ll transition into pre-contest prep for the 2017 Arnold XPC classic. Despite the poor training as of late, I feel good physically and am confident that I can get some positive momentum going into the meet.
