I don’t have to, I get to

Brief recap:

We just wrapped up an in-house Fun Day at Lowcountry Strength on May 6th.  It was a great turn out and I was very happy with how our training cycle came out.  LCS is back to deep, raw offseason training.  Might be news of a meet in October but that’s to be determined later.  My wife and I had our 2nd child on May 10th.  So, my training is going to be quick and sporadic (hopefully not), but I’ll be getting as much done as possible.

My wife and I welcomed our 2nd child into the world on May 10th at 5:30pm.  Our little daughter Murray Elianna (Lana) Kuenzel was born without any complications weighing 6lbs 14oz and 19″ long.

I knew that things were going to have to take a back seat to family for a while.  I had already made plans for how my next training cycle was going to look.  I’m going to do my best not to miss any training sessions but that doesn’t mean that they’ll be great.  Something is better than nothing.

You always think that you’re rushing.  That you never have enough time.  I thought that with one kid.  Two kids, even a week into having 2, you realize that you had a tremendous amount of time.  I’m still doing everything I used to do but now more.  A good retrospective glance into the past shows just how much time is wasted.  I thought I was busy when I was single.  I thought I was busy when Amy and I got married.  I thought I was slammed when we had a kid.  It really makes you think about what is important.  Where do your priorities lie?

The beauty of being busy is it determines what you really want to do.  It sets things into perspective.  I realize that the things I “have” to do are really the things that I get to do.  I get to raise two beautiful daughters with a loving wife.  I get to go to work at a job I enjoy.  I get to train because it’s a priority.  Sure, I have to pay taxes, but the things I have to do are done by choice.  They really are the important things.  I don’t have to waste time doing something that won’t help.  Not everything I do, will be a pleasure at that moment, but the ability to do them, make them an invaluable moment in life.  As cliche as it is, life isn’t what you’re handed but how you deal with it.

All of this is a long and fancy way of saying that training is going to suck for a bit.  Haha!  I’m tired.  I’m sleep deprived (although admittedly, not as much as my wife).  I’m better nutritionally but that’s easier to account for.  I’m taking this time to get my body composition in order, work on a few nagging issues, and get my base built up for the work to come later this year.
