Lab Rat – The Cut

I’m training to compete in the RPS Chalk & Iron September 30th.  I competed in the APF Equipped Nationals (June 17th)  where I totaled 1631lbs (squat – 606.X lbs, bench press 418.X lbs, deadlift 606.X lbs) at a body weight of 239.9lbs.

Training has throttled back quite a bit since taking my openers.  My bodyweight has been hovering around 262 for most of this training cycle.  To ensue I had an easy cut carbs at dinner and Gatorade / milk was dropped the week of the 18th.

Squat / Deadlift – Saturday September 23, 2017

Overall this was a quick training session.  I worked up my second to last warmup for each lift then did some core work and called it a day.

Squat

  • 2 x 5 w/ 155
  • 2 x 4 w/ 245
  • 335 x 2
  • 425 x 1

Deadlift

  • 225 x 2
  • 315 x 2
  • 405 x 1

Goblet Squats – 3 x 8

Single leg deadlift- 3 x 8

Stir the Pot – 80

Suitcase Carry – 3 trips per side

Carbs were removed from the diet and water loading began Monday.  I followed the protocols outlined in Brian’s Cutting Weight E-book.  Monday and Wednesday were fluff and buff days, designed to get some blood flowing but not place unnecessary load on the body / CNS.  I performed the following both days –

  • McGill Big 3 – couple rounds
  • Paused goblet squat – 3 x 10
  • Single leg deadlift – 3 x 10
  • Band fly – 60
  • Band press down – 60
  • Stir the pot – 80
  • Suitcase carry – 3 trips per side

Jonathan Byrd and Lisa Guggisberg rode down with me Thursday and coasted into weigh ins Friday morning.  I  stepped on the scale at 241.6lbs, down from 263.2 the 17th.    Time to hydrate and re-feed.

Jason Kowalewski is an up and coming raw powerlifter residing in Jacksonville, Florida where he trains with Team Samson. Jason began training under Brian’s tutelage in February 2013. He was actually one of the initial test subjects, hence the name Lab Rat. Since then he has seen significant improvements on all lifts with his commitment to Brian and the 10/20/Life methodology. To date his best total is 1653.4lbs via 633.8lb squat, 435.4lb bench and 584.9lb deadlift at 242lbs.
