Paul Oneid – 5 weeks out training and Black Beauty wraps review

[wa-wps]

I am prepping for my first trip to the XPC Arnold. I will be competing at 242lbs and looking to build on my 1960lbs total. I’ve had a very productive off-season working with Byrd and he will continue to handle my training leading into the meet. Tucker has helped me put on a significant amount of muscle and I am by far the biggest and leanest I have ever been. I am very excited to put all my work on display and represent Team PRS on the big stage.

Alrighty, so I don’t think training this week could have been better.  My pec is moving progressing, but for the sake of safety, I will be avoiding benching to the chest until the meet.  I would rather be smart than let me mind play tricks on me.  The deadlift feels great and I finished up the training cycle 40lbs over what I did for my Oct. meet.  I am on pace for a huge PR there.  On the squat, I still have some technique issues to shore up.  I need to make sure to set my feet properly and keep my upper back tight from the unrack.  With my squatting style, I need to stay as upright as possible.  If I can do that, I am on pace for a massive squat.  The 815 in the video is a 10lbs PR and moved convincingly fast.  I’ll have one more week in the wraps to get things perfect before the meet.

Deadlift

  1. Deadlift – up to opener 660×1, below a second attempt 715×1
  2. Facepulls – 5×20
  3. bodyweight row – 3×10
  4. Birddogs and Mcgill crunch x a lot

Squat

  1. Squat – opener 765×1, 815×1 (10lbs PR), reverse band 850×1 (15lbs PR)
  2. SL RDL – 3×8
  3. Birddogs and Mcgill crunch x a lot

Inzer Black Beauty Wraps

I have been wanting to try these since Brian posted that he had some.  At the time we were being given our allotment of equipment, there were none available.  I purchased these wraps on my own this past weekend at an RPS meet in Newark.  While I loved the double grippers, I found them very restricting and I had to modify how I wrapped my knees and my widen my stance to use them well.  They are very aggressive and very thick. For a narrow/ moderate stance squatter like me, I had to fight to hit depth, or they would throw me around.

Upon first touch, the first thing that stood out about the BB wraps is how heavy they were.  I have never felt material quite like them.  They are very stiff, and no where near as thick as the double grippers.  It was a very cool combination of stiffness and rebound.  I could retake my more narrow stance and I felt much faster in my decent, which I like.  I could wrap more behind my knee and even though the wrap isn’t as thick, it gave great stopping power in the hole.  These will be the wraps I will wear at the Arnold and I will PR in them.  The only negative that I can give is that the material isn’t sticky, so I had to chalk my knees.  Not an issue because I typically do that anyway.

Now, for some comparisons.  This was tough, because I have never felt a wrap with this type of material density and feel.  They are unique.  If you’ve used the Krait wraps by EliteFTS, they are similar in performance, but are much stiffer and not as thick.  They give equal stopping power, but more rebound.  If you’ve used the Metal All Blacks, the BB are thicker, denser and more aggressive.  Basically a super beefed up version.  These are definitely worth the purchase.  I have yet to use an INZER product I didn’t like.

The same warm-up was performed everyday:
