Team Samson Powerlifting- Driggers, the Shaman… 1/23-1/27

[wa-wps]

Adam Driggers is keeping his retirement casual by still out-lifting active lifters on occasion. Channing Doyle is currently in meet prep mode for the raw portion of the Arnold. Shane Ford is recovering from a back injury, while trying to be less fat.

At 6 weeks out from the Arnold, meet prep for Brian, Byrd, and Channing is clicking along at a rapid pace. As the team draws nearer to the meet, the competitors intensity rubs off on the rest of the gym. Week by week the weights go up!

Adam Driggers

1/23 Combo Day- Retirement training is treating Adam very well. Allowing time to focus on business and family, as well as come into the gym and show some of the guys he can still out lift them. No squat suit this week, instead it was squatting 470 lbs for 2 and pulling 495 lbs for a fast single.

1/25 Bench- Again this week Adam was in one of Brian’s Inzer SDP bench shirts, taking 670lbs, giving it a chance to break in before the Arnold. Prior to that, comes in and cranks out 410 for a single. Not bad for a “retired” guy.

Channing Doyle

1/23 Bench- With Channing being an active duty Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, training can be sporadic at times. In the gym, he makes sure that he makes up for time lost. This week, he came in and hit some big benching, with a 370 lbs bench, and a 410 lbs two board press. Under the close watch of Brian, Jon and Paul Key, he is looking poised to have a good day on the bench.

370, Full Range

410, Two Board Press

Shane Ford

1/23 Squat- Continuing with last week’s trend, Shane worked volume with sets and shorter rest periods, versus reps. Lighter weight for him at the moment, is the name of the game, with three top sets at 375×5.

1/25 Bench- With Shane’s bench lagging, we are looking at the volume benching as a way to crank it up, as well as get some much needed conditioning. Here we have 8 sets of 225 lbs for 5, again, reducing rest time between sets.

1/27 Deadlift- Same story as above, a lot of sets at 5 reps, topping out at two sets of five with 425 lbs.
