LCS Week 1, Session 1

Lowcountry Strength is moving into our off season after coming off a recent meet.  The plan is to find a meet in the later part of the fall or early winter.  I have no desire to get back into the gear while the gym temperature is above 85degrees.  Haha!

Check out my latest article on Power Rack Strength about trying to Learn to Suffer.

As always, a big thanks to Inzer Advance Designs and Captain Jacked for their continued support of TeamPRS.

Check out the PowerRackStrength shop for shirts, hats, books, and other goodies.

The meet is over and the heat has come.  It’s time to get out of the gear, work our raw movements, and build back up some muscular endurance.  Based upon some performances at the meet, some cardio will be necessary as well.

One thing we’ve moved away from is the fast pace of raw work.  It takes it toll on the conditioning element and when that happens, getting up to max weight can gas us.  It’s something we struggle with as powerlifters.  We like to steer clear of the dreaded cardio because we’re deathly afraid of losing our precious gains.  But if for some reason, the lack of conditioning prevents us from being in top shape to take a good 2nd or third attempt, or even being too drained to deadlift properly, then that lack of cardio is killing our gains.

My goal over the next couple months is to get back my conditioning and cardio.  The summer time is a nice time for this.  For now, I’ve also got quite a few issues that I’m working with Paul Oneid to resolve.  My right knee and right hip have been progressively getting worse.  It doesn’t bother me any other time than squatting (although I suspect that it’s slowly working its way into my deadlift).  Hence one of the reasons for my poor performance at the meet.  I’ll get into a bit more in-depth discussion of what’s going on there when we get closer to the root cause.

For now: training –

Low incline bb press: 135×5 x3sets

2bd CG press: 185×8 x4sets

dips: bwx10 x3

french press SS w/ reverse curls: 3 sets of 15

cable flyes SS w/ band pressdowns: 3 sets of 15

All this only took me 35 minutes.  I’m keeping it light and easy just to make sure I can move quickly through it all.  I’ve got a lot of family time to make up and the summer is a perfect time to spend with wife and kids since they’re all out of school for the summer.  Got to love a teacher’s schedule.

Moving on.
