Zane Geeting, Training Update 10/4/2018

I’m currently off season and training as frequently as possible with my busy schedule. It hasn’t been as regular as I would like, but I’m sure it will come around soon. My last meet was the 2018 XPC finals where I totaled 1710@198 raw with wraps, which was good enough for the win at 198. I don’t have another meet picked out as of now, but would like to compete before spring.

I had a bad stretch of luck the last few weeks, hence the lack of posting log updates. I injured my left hamstring which had been bothering me for a while, nothing serious, just a strain, and it is healing nicely. Unfortunately, right after that minor injury I got a bacterial infection which really kicked my ass. I wound up in the hospital and lost about 15-16 lbs. I’m recovered now and easing back into training. Below are the first few sessions back. Check it out…

9/21/2018, First training session back

I didn’t expect much here as I was just starting to feel normal again, and my BW was still only sitting around 210, a solid 10-12 lbs. below where I’ve been sitting. I decided to start with a light upper session.

Warm up

Bird dog’s, Cat/Camel, Push ups, Scarecrows, Side laterals, DB OHP

Bench

Warmed up to 235x8x3 sets

Push ups

100 total

Side laterals

4×12

Band pushdowns

4×15-20

Lat pulldowns

5×10-12

  • I really suffered here. You can’t tell by writing it out, but I ran out of gas super fast. Very humbling.

9/26/2018, Second session back

This time I decided to do a fluff n buff lower session as to give the hamstring a little more of a break. It only seems to hurt me when squatting, right around parallel (shouldn’t be a problem for the mid Michigan high squatters, I know) but hamstring curls and the like are perfectly fine.

Warm up

McGill’s, Donkey kicks, Cat/Camel, BW squat (even this is uncomfortable)

Leg extensions

4×15 + 1 drop set with 2 drops

Hamstring curls

5×10-12

Standing calve raises

3×15-20

Seal rows

5×10

Band pull aparts

4×15

Machine shrugs

3×20+

  • Same as last session, fatigued very quickly here, but starting to feel better and fill back out a little. Back up to 212 lbs or so.

9/29/2018, Upper session

I had no real expectations here other than hopefully not getting winded and tired as fast as the last upper session. That worked out as I hoped, but it still wasn’t good or normal.

Warm up

Push ups, Side laterals, Scarecrows, DB OHP

Bench

Warmed up to 235×8, then 255×8, 8, and 6

Paused bench

195x5x3 sets. Long pauses, short rest periods

Side laterals

4×12

Band pushdowns

4×15

Lat pulldowns

5×10

  • Better than the last one, but still nothing to write home about. I’m hoping to be back to normal by next week, or at least close to it.

10/3/2018, Deadlift training

I hadn’t deadlifted in about a month because of the hamstring and then getting sick, so again, no expectations here. I decided I would work up slow and see how it went.

Warm up

McGill’s, Donkey kicks, Cat/Camel, BW squat, Light stretching

Conventional DL

Warmed up to 315×5, then 375×5, and 420x5x2 sets

DB rows

5×10-12

Lat pulldowns

3×15

Machine shrugs

100 total

Alt DB curls

4×12

  • While that looks super light (because it is) it felt really good considering everything. Hopefully I’m back in the game here.

So that’s what’s been going on with me, aside from crazy work hours and lots of farming. I’ve been out of work on time 4 times in the last month and a half. Working 9am til 7pm-8pm or later 6 days a week, farming before work, and after. We’re up to about 40 hogs on the farm now, and trying to get them all situated before winter sets in. When you raise them out on pasture, you have to make sure to get some good winter housing in place, so that’s the current project we’re focusing on. Thanksgiving Turkey’s are ready to be butchered and my new laying flock of hens (replaced the old girls) is just coming into egg production. I gave you a good view of one of my Boar’s (his name is Boyfriend) in the thumbnail, guys doing alright, lol. Overall, I have no complaints other than the fact that there aren’t enough hours in the day, nor enough days in the week.
