Dan Dalenberg- 11 Days out- Last SQ/DL

Finishing up my training cycle for Relentless Detroit on November 8th in Flat Rock, MI at Kirby Church. I will be lifting raw at 242.

Worked up to an opener squat and last warm up pull to finish out my squat and deadlift training.

Squat

Bar x a lot

150 x 5

260 x 3

350, 440, 530, 620 x 1

710 for two singles. This will be my opener and is the weight in the video. On the first single I stumbled at the top. I’ve done this a couple times and realized the common denominator is that my training partner tries to move my upper back to be perfectly aligned under that bar and it messes with my setup. If I’m a little off I just need to start over, no adjust under the bar. Lesson learned. Second single moved very fast and depth is great.

I’ve lifted in about 20 full power meets. 60 competition squats. Never been called on depth. BUT for some reason I always get paranoid about depth right before the meet. So that’s why I ended up in a singlet- I wanted to do the lift exactly like I will at the meet and be able to see on video exactly what the judge will be seeing. Pretty sure I don’t have anything to worry about.

I feel like I handle myself pretty well at meets. I stay pretty calm and able to flip the switch when I need to. But that first squat always makes me nervous. That lift sets the tone for my day. 710 will put me in a good spot to smoke my opener and make smart jumps to hit the squat I want.

Deads

315 for two singles

405, 495 and 585 for singles. 585 will be my last warmup. Moved well, exactly as expected.

Finished up with some McGill work and that was it! Happy with how it finished up.

I can’t wait to lift in this meet

I am EXTREMELY excited about this meet. Kevin Smith, Dan Maki, Derek Wade and I are all in a position to total something big. Very possible that all four of us will squat 800+, I’ve seen several very strong looking training videos. I’m thinking the battle for best lifter will be pretty tight. Thankfully I’m not NEARLY as fat as they are. Actually, that’s not true. I’m just as fat, just shrunk down to troll height. Whatever. Makes for a really short bench stroke.

Andrew Burnell and Andy Grimm both look to be coming in very strong as well. I’m sure there will other nice raw totals at the meet too, point is the level of competition should be very high with a lot of big lifting.
