Dan Dalenberg | DL Only- Week 1 | SQ/DL

I recently competed at the Arnold Classic, lifting at 242 multi-ply. I PRed all around going 8/9 with a 940 squat, 700 bench and 730 deadlift for a 2370 total. I have some unfinished business from that meet, a missed 3rd attempt deadlift that I hope to redeem this July. My training will be a mix of off-season and deadlift contest prep.

First night training for the DL meet in July. I intend to do Eric Stone’s summer APF meet in Chicago. He doesn’t offer DL only at this one, so I will be entering full power, take a couple tokens and then pull at the end of the day.

Squat

This wasn’t intended to be a squat focused session, however, I am breaking in some new briefs and took some sets up to the low 600s in briefs. This pair is a 36 2ply Predator with grid stitching. They are TIGHT.

I noticed with my Leviathan if I have the lowest strings at the quad pulled too tight, I really struggle to spread the floor and sit back hard enough. Something about super tight in the quads makes squatting difficult for me. These briefs left a purple/black/blue bruise ring around my quad… Might be a little too tight! I think I will like a thicker but larger pair of briefs to squat in. I have a 38 triple ply to try as well, which I will put on next week.

Deads

On the deadlift I have realized I like a very tight brief. Partly because it keeps the bar from catching too much on the bottom seam, partly because I like the support better. So these 36 doubles might be the right ones to pull in!

Worked up to 605 off the floor and then 655 off a 3 inch block. Really pleased with the block pull especially, this position is typically pretty rough for me.
