17 Mar Dan Dalenberg | Offseason Spring 2017
I recently competed at the 2017 Arnold XPC Finals where I went 8/9, squatting 940, benching 700, pulling 730 for a 2370 total at 242 multi-ply. I will be transitioning into a long offseason that will include a deadlift only meet in the middle of it.Â
Second edition of 10/20 is here and shipping! Click the picture to get it.
What I have been doing since the meet
NOTHING. It’s been great. I have some weird issue with some tendons in my left ankle going on that needs a little rest, so I will continue to do very little for the rest of the month or until it recovers. I’ve been in the gym a couple times for some quick, fluffy sessions but that is it.
That is what you should do.Â
I’ve seen (via social media) a bunch of true iron warriors already back in the gym, already back lifting heavy weight. I saw at least two that were working up to max singles the week after their respective meets and missing.
This is stupid. Beyond stupid. An excellent way to get a big injury or at the very least set your recovery from the meet back a solid month.
Look, you aren’t going to shrivel up and lose everything by taking some time off. A little time out of the gym will let you heal, keep your body safe and let some of the cumulative damage from training hard heal. This is how you stay in the game and able to do this for a long time.
Call me a sissy if you want or lazy or whatever. Fact is, I’ve doing this longer than a lot of the iron warriors, my total is bigger, and I haven’t had any serious injury. Maybe there is something to it.Â
