26 Apr Dan Dalenberg | Offseason Update | Spring 2017
I recently competed at the 2017 Arnold XPC Finals where I went 8/9, squatting 940, benching 700, pulling 730 for a 2370 total at 242 multi-ply. I will be transitioning into a long offseason that will include a deadlift only meet in the middle of it.Â
[wa-wps]The past couple weeks have been a little rough for training. I came down with an upper respiratory infection that put me out for a few days. Nothing serious but enough that energy levels were pretty terrible and I wasn’t training much. I did manage a few sessions and got the work in but nothing exciting to speak of. Lots of RPE 6-7 work as planned. Still on track to finish out the off season well.
I also finally have my briefs almost ready to go. I’ve been able to get a couple good sessions in them and am having my tailor make a quick adjustment for me. Once I get them back next week, I think I will be set.
Reese the rock eater
This little jerk.
He’s been struggling a bit with a bladder infection, which thankfully we have figured out I think. Long story short, the bacteria was resistant to the first couple antibiotics that the vet tried but the one we have now seems to be working.
Last week I took him to the vet and had to leave him for the day. The vet consulted with a specialist at Michigan State University and was advised to take an X-ray to look for stones, kidney stones, bladder stones, etc.
So they did and they found some stones! Of the gravel nature. Reese had 5-6 pebbles in his intestines and 1 big rock in his stomach. The smaller ones were already so far through him that they would pass on their own. The stomach rock though was much too big to pass. A little ipecac syrup later, some vomit and the rock was out. Thank goodness for that vet and the x-ray suggestion. That would have been a surgery otherwise!
Business School
In other news, I got into business school last week, to start in late August. I will be getting an MBA through Central Michigan’s online global campus.
Professionally, I have found myself in a role where I am starting to be involved in decisions related to how we run the business and the product portfolio strategy. I want this degree to have a better academic base for those discussions. Also, many of the leaders in our organization above my level have an MBA, so I am also doing it to eliminate a future career ceiling.
Plus Stryker has a generous tuition reimbursement program. Win-win for me.
