Dan Dalenberg- RUM8- Deload, weight cut and update

Training for RUM 8 on February 8th. I will be lifting on the wrapped/monolift day, hoping to post another 2000+ raw total. 


Starting my deload tonight. Lots of fluffing and buffing. Very boring stuff but much needed. I’ll squat very light tonight, bench a little tomorrow and do some pump and stretch crap on Wednesday. Lots of blood flow work and nothing over 30-40%. RPE .001.

Weight Cut

Coming in slightly leaner than in November. 251 morning weight versus closer to 255 then. Taking it light on carbs this week and already water loading 2 gallons a day. Should be a very easy cut. I get to Florida 5pm Friday and can’t weigh in till 11am Saturday, so if I’m a little over Saturday morning I will have plenty of time to sweat a little out. I really doubt that it will be needed, but good to know I have time.


Damn, I keep hitting roadblocks for this meet. First a flu, then a week long cold. This most recent issue was a bit more intense than those though..

This weekend I went down to my mom’s house in Illinois with Chelsea. We had some last details to figure out for our wedding and needed to make a quick trip. Everything went fine until Saturday morning. At about 5am I woke up with something caught in my throat. Couldn’t clear it and water didn’t help. I started gagging and choking and couldn’t stop. As I started panicking I managed to get enough air to ask for help.

Thankfully my mom was already waking up to my hacking and was a nurse at one time. She saw that I was panicking and took a look in my mouth. Tonsils, adenoids and uvula super swollen to the point where the uvula was touching my tongue and the back of my mouth was pretty much blocked. Since I was pretty concerned about my ability to breathe, a trip to the emergency room was in order.

That was fun. No idea was caused it. One dose of prednisone and I’m back to normal. Here’s hoping it doesn’t happen again!
