Dan Dalenberg- Sunday at Michigan Barbell and what’s next

On Sunday after the meet ended up spending a good part of the day at Michigan Barbell. Brian helped me with my squat and made a couple, very small, improvements.

Training

Spent a ton of time getting my pecs and shoulders warmed up and ready to get under the squat bar. I was TIGHT. Plenty of McGill work sprinkled in.

Worked up to 3 triples with 335. Brian had me change my foot angle a bit. Very small change, doesn’t force me to have to think about it or learn anything new. But what it did do is allow my hips to open up and better utilize the strength of my hips and glutes. Felt very powerful. I plan on rolling with this.

Got to hang out with and help out a great group on Sunday. Matt Kroc, Josh McMillian, Mike Szabcdefg, Ken Richardson and Shane Poole were all there. McMillian and Brian smashed some big benching. I think Josh has been out of the bench shirt for awhile, very impressive lifting from him. Fun group to BS with and listen to stories over lunch.

MBB Group

This gym is SWEET. Michigan Barbell is a part of Total Fitness Center in Howell, MI. MBB is in a separate room with 2 monos, 2 comp benches, 2 EFS racks, every bar you could want and lots of other sweet stuff. Lots of space, well organized and clean. The Total Fitness Center side is really nice as well. More of a commercial feel with all of the equipment you would expect. Great combination. Check this place out if you in the area and keep an eye out for future events hosted by this gym.

What’s next

Next up for me will be Relentless Detroit in early November. My training will really ramp up towards the end of August. For now I am focusing on doing a little cardio and getting in better shape. I’d like to be a little harder at 250 and generally be better conditioned. I’d like to come into that meet at about 255 and slightly leaner.  Reasonable spot to cut to 242 from and a weight I am very strong at.

I’m really looking forward to that meet. Great cause, huge crowd and a lot of strong lifters. Can’t wait to share the platform with the likes of Dan Green and Shawn Frankl among others.
