Dan Dalenberg | Training Update | Closet Bodybuilder?

Currently in offseason mode, trying to lose my Bloat King status, look better for my wedding and build a denser, better put together self.

First week of trying to be less fat and more jacked went really well.

I actually really enjoy the training and structure of dieting. Scott basically had me carb backloading so I still got to eat lots of meat and a few carbs on training days. It has worked really well, dropping down to 240.6 this morning. Seeing a noticeable difference in appearance, less.. puffy.

I really like the training style too. I have basically been in meet prep since August of last year and seriously needed the mental and physical break. It was a very productive 2 meets for sure, but I was exhausted. I don’t really remember what I did last week from a training standpoint but the gist of it is that I moved fast, did lots of dumbbell complexes/circuits and speed walked on the treadmill.

This week is more weights and more cardio. Looks fun. This almost makes me want to train for a bodybuilding show at some point. I look at the dieting and training as tools for a project. The project being me looking decent on the beach after I get married. I’ve never had issues with diet for that reason, I quickly get into “project mode” and food becomes a tool. Once I lose the attitude of eating being fun and for pleasure and just look at it as a tool, I can eat the same stuff everyday and just not care. It’s not about enjoying the meal at that point, it’s about getting closer to the end of the project.

It’s been very fun so far. I feel great and the mental break is rewarding. After spending ~6 straight months trying to be as strong as I could and obsessing over weights moving its really nice to step back and not focus on that so much right now.

One thing that is helping me a lot is GamePlan Whey. I usually eat tons of starchy snacks during the day which I obviously can’t have right now. Glad to have a protein powder that mixes very well and tastes good without messing up my guts.
