28 Feb Tucker: Lumpin’ around… With a purpose
Well, I was an official lump for the first half of last week. I think I must have bitten off more than I could chew in the beginning of the year, and it caught up to me. For a good 4-5 days I slept in later than I normally do and went to bed earlier than usual too, but I had zero motivation to do any of my strengthening routines.
I did however, make the best of it, and it turned out to be in my favor. I let myself lump it up completely for a day or two, and then I did some of the light mobility work or working out some knots on a foam roller for half an hour the other days. I also got in for a deep tissue massage session, and that was reeeeally helpful. Within just one session for my elbow, it’s definitely seeing improvement, and the same for my knee. He loosened up my biceps, triceps and forearm, and went to town on my quad. I took it easy for a day or two after to let all the work sink in, and when I was ready to get back to it at the end of the week with my strengthening routine, there was a big difference in how my knee and leg felt.
Mentally, I’ve done a good job of switching gears and taking this whole thing seriously, and giving myself an extended timeline to be as healthy as possible, so that I don’t have to deal with anything like this again. I’m not rushing anything, and just being patient and feeling confident that I’m doing as much as I possibly can to get better – that includes stimulation with my huge list of core, leg, T-spine etc exercises, and days off, and seeing the right people to help me get back to health.
Sadly, no fun PR’s or exciting news, but this is where the work gets done. All the monotonous, boring, unexciting times is where the real progress is made, and it’s arguably the most important part of the process.
