Derek Wilcox: Strong(ish) Garagebell Chronicles 1-29-17 Repping 900lbs and 3RM PRs!

[wa-wps]
I’m currently training to compete at the XPC Finals at the Arnold. Hoping to change the all time record books once again.

Never thought I would ever say that I was repping 900lbs on much of any real lift.  I was pretty nervous before this week started on how everything would go. This is usually the platform that I base my number selection on for the meet peeking cycle that leads up to the competition. Thankfully this week went very well and I don’t feel too terrible afterward either. Hopefully this is a good sign for all the crazy heavy work I have ahead of me in a couple weeks!

Heavy Lower Day (Warm ups – Empty bar squats with wraps on quads/hams, rotational hip stretches, TFL stretch, bird dogs and shoulder mobility)
–Fully Equipped Squat – worked up to 901 x3 New PR
Had a little drama during the set but in the end it only made me more confident in my strength at this point.

Heavy Upper Day (Warm ups – Empty bar squats, rotational hip stretches, TFL stretch, bird dogs and shoulder mobility)
– Shirted Bench Press – up to 535 x3
Managed to keep my shoulders in tact here and actually felt pretty easy.  Left a little in the tank just to play it safe.

Light Lower Day (Warm ups – Empty bar squats with wraps on quads/hams, rotational hip stretches, TFL stretch, bird dogs and shoulder mobility)
– Sumo 3” Block Pull – up to 683 x3
Hips felt really beat up so didn’t push it any further.

Very happy with how everything went this week and will hopefully be able to build on it leading up to the meet!
