Derek Wilcox: Strong(ish) Garagebell Chronicles 10-16-16 Trying to jump with 600lbs and Meet Day Mishaps

[wa-wps]
I’m currently training to compete at the XPC Finals at the Arnold. Hoping to change the all time record books once again.

Heavy Pull Day (Warm ups – Empty bar squats with wraps on quads/hams, rotational hip stretches, TFL stretch, bird dogs and shoulder mobility)
–Snatch High Pulls – singles up to 265lbs
These felt awesome and seemed promising for the meet coming that weekend

Mid Thigh Pulls – up to 605×2
My form stayed very good considering the weight here but oh so surprisingly the velocity was quite low on the 605 set 😛

Competition Lift Day (Warm ups – Empty bar squats with wraps on quads/hams, rotational hip stretches, TFL stretch, bird dogs and shoulder mobility)
– Power Snatches – up to 110kg/242lbs
Felt very fast and good for 125kg or so on meet day hopefully

– Power Clean and Power Jerk – up to 140kg
Forgot my wrist wraps on the last set which made my jerk quite painful on my bad wrist and lockout was a little iffy.  Weight felt easy though.

The meet didn’t end up happening due to me reading the schedule incorrectly and thinking my session was 2 hours later than it actually was.  The meet wasn’t exactly critical to my career but I was very disappointed it worked out the way it did.  I’m sure I’ll jump into a meet in the spring at some point and redeem myself.
