21 Jul Chris Bartl Training Log 7/19/14
To say I’m having one hell of a good day would be an understatement. I couldn’t have asked for a better morning! First off, I have my small group clients starting a new phase of EMOM (every minute on the minute) training and they got their asses handed to them. Second, while this is a little sad it is still awesome, this is the last week I have my D1 baseball guys around and they all asked to test the 1 rep maxes this week, so of course we start with squat. If you follow me on Facebook you will see that 8 out of the 9 guys hit PR’s, with one guy holding back because of an injury. The biggest squat of the day goes out to Texas State outfielder Granger Studdard who came in with a previous best squat of 400 pounds and he fucking smoked 510 pounds today for the biggest 8 week jump in PR’s I’ve ever had. 110 pounds!!!
My proudest moment of the day came when my 13-year old baseball prospect squatted. When he first started with me, watching him try to squat just the bar made my eyes bleed. So I stripped him down for the better part of two years, I had him squat with nothing heavier than a 16k kg kettle bell. Well, the little fucker stepped up and hit a 260 pound squat today. It had all the older guys yelling and screaming and the smile on his face absolutely melted me. See, his dad has never been in the picture and I have taken him under my wing and treated him like a son. I have never been so proud of a younger man than what he has become as a ball player and a person. He will be in the big leagues… just watch.
And last but not least, I had a pro basketball player walk through my doors looking to get stronger so he can make his NBA tryout’s, as he has been playing professionally in Greece and Spain the last two years.
My day is kicking ass.
But this post is about Saturday’s training session and it called for 2×2 of the big three with an RPE of 8. I went in this order: squat, dead, bench. Even though my body weight is down to 247, my briefs fit like I was 256 which makes me insanely happy. The only thing that sucked about Saturday was the headache I had right behind my eye’s and every time I put the bar on my back, it was like someone was stabbing me in the eye with an ice pick. I didn’t hit the number I wanted to on my squat but my dead and bench surprised me and I was happy over all.
I can’t really tell you what I did for warm up’s but more of the same I’m sure.
