Chris Bartl Training Log 7/26/14

Today was the start of my 10-week prep to get ready for my upcoming meet in October.  It’s a USPA multi-ply meet which I have not done before.  I used to compete single ply when I first started and did exclusively all USPA meets since they are based in Cali and it was easy to get around to some of the smaller local ones.  To say I am interested to see how they judge the multi-ply is an understatement.

Brian is programming for me again for this meet and he has delivered again.  Looking at this program I can only think of one thing: what the fuck did I do to piss him off.  A long time ago, Brian asked if he could “try some stuff out” on me which I of course agreed to.  I was not expecting this.  Needless to say when he sent me day 1, all I could do was shake my head.

Below is what I put myself through:

Warm Up

McGill Three 3x lots

band shoulder warm up

Squat

3×10 bar

135×5

225×4

315×4

add metal briefs

405×4

briefs plus suit, straps down

525 – 3×4

Bench

3×10 bar

135×5

185×5

225×4

275×4

315×4 – 3 board

add jack bench shirt

395 – 3×4

Deadlift

135×4

225×4

315×4

add jack sumo deadlift suit

405×5

455 – 3×4

10 – 40 yard sprints.  Yes you are reading that correctly, I had to do 10 – 40 yard sprints.  I do actually enjoy sprinting, just not after a 3 hour lifting session.  I really ended up doing more like 20 sprints because I did 10 build up sprints to make sure I remembered how to run.  It was a shock to my system to say the least but did feel good to run.  Something must have worked because I jumped on the scale at 244 this morning.  So far that makes 10 pounds in about 5 weeks and that does not upset me at all.  I feel better, I’m moving better, my body doesn’t hurt and I haven’t lost any strength or at least I don’t feel like I have.  Will have to keep the eye’s open on that one.
