Gym or fitness facility?

Every so often I get asked if we’re a geared powerlifting gym. Not often mind you, because we’re kind of hard to find, I don’t advertise, and am pretty blunt with people that ask about training here. But my response when I’m asked this question is, “we are a gym that you go to to get things done.”

Some of us are geared powerlifters. Some of us are raw powerlifters. Some of us are multi-sport athletes. I say “us” because we are in this together. Training sucks sometimes. It’s nice to come to a place where we all have the goal of getting better despite what our chosen endeavor might be.

The whole geared vs. raw bullshit grows old. Those of us that have been doing this long enough could give a flying fuck what the other guy is doing as long as he helps the crew. You show up, spot, load, call cues, etc., and you could be the world’s worst bat boy and you’d still be welcome. You will be treated with the same respect as the world record holder. Respect here is earned. As it should be in any gym. Now it’s a whole other story at your spa, fitness facility, or studio. I can’t speak for them. But a real gym… WE are training partners.

Stop thinking the “facility” owes you something and give something back to the GYM.
