Byrd: MBB Seminar and Training

If you did not make it to Michigan Barbell this weekend, you missed a damn good time. We managed to raise some money for a great cause, lifted some weights, and talked a lot of shit!

I am finally starting to feel healthy again, and believe me it was difficult for me not to jump in and squat with the team. I played it smart, worked up to 3 plates and continued to improve on my form. This Saturday I will bump it up some and continue to add more direct leg work. I have set a small time table for myself. I would like to beat my raw gym prs and squat something stupid in briefs before I start my meet prep. After my baby squat workout I turned my attention to helping my teammates. I wrapped knees for several people Saturday, and trust me when I tell you….it kicked my ass! I had to change shirts midway through because apparently I am still a fat kid who sweats a ton! I will be handling multiple people at the RPS meet at the end of May, so I better get use to this! I will not go through all the lifts everyone hit, but I will stand by the statement that my wrap job is good for PRs.

Two big things that stood out to me on Saturday was the fact that Danny Vega pulled a 675lb deadlift PR with 4 weeks out from the meet. I really would love to see him pull 700lbs at the meet, and I feel he is ready to make that jump. Besides looking like a damn muscle magazine model, he has been damn fun to coach. Its guys like him, JP, and Ben Moore that make what I do fun! The other thing that stood out was Scott Paltos squat! Now I have known Scott for just less than a year now, and we have become very good friends over that time. I love to see my friends hit some big numbers, and again with 4 weeks out no telling what he can hit at the meet.

Saturday night we all got together over at Heather and Todd’s house for food, drinks, and the fight. To say it was a good time would be an understatement. There is no doubt in my mind that Jason Pegg is one of the funniest men on the planet. He is a real asshole, but damn is he funny! Scott and Jason were telling some stories about Bob, which of course is always fun to hear. See I did not know Bob well, and the Bob I knew was much different than that of Jason, Scott, and Brian. Bob and I worked together when 10/20/Life was getting going, and he was always very polite and nice. It really makes me wonder how many times he ripped into Brian about stuff I messed up haha! Bottom line is, there is no doubt that Bob Ihlenfeldt would be pleased with how things are going with the site.

I stayed up way too late, and may have had a few too many drinks on Saturday night. Sunday I was a walking zombie, my legs were sore and my damn hips were tight. I guess I was not use to squatting after the several weeks off. A lot of guys benched Sunday, but being weak as hell I opted to hit a few sets of dumbbells and call it a day.

Anytime I get a chance to hang out with this group of people, I will not let it pass me by. Its rare that a group of so many different walks of life can come together and work together. This last few months for me had been very difficult. I had some major health issues that I avoided talking about in my log. In fact, other than a handful of people nobody knew specifically what was going on with me. Either way after more doc visits and hospital stops than I care to think about, I am getting back into the groove of things.

I really dont know what I would do without the help of my teammates, specifically Brian and Scott. You two are like the ugly brothers I never wanted. Between Brian’s inappropriate texts, and the shorts Scott stole from a 12 year old girl, I dont think its smart to go anywhere with you two in public! Truth is I trust you guys blindly, and I think that is what is making this whole thing work. Stick to what we believe in, and this thing will be bigger than we ever thought! Thank you both for being there, for not freaking out on me when I refuse to go to the doctors, and for still being dicks about the whole thing!

Where the ideas all started to come together!
