Tucker: Failed goals for December, new goals for 2018

Don’t mind the charming smile on the right. There’s plenty of self loathing hidden behind it….

Well, I capped off the year by taking second in my class at the Excalibur down here in LA, and I had a couple goals for myself afterwards – stay healthy, stay lean, treat yourself like a pro. None of those happened. I hurt my foot/ankle at the show and was on crutches for a little over two weeks, and I ate pretty crappy during that time. I got to the gym a few times, but I was sick of my foot hurting so I just tried to stay off of it. That was a good move because it got better quickly, but without exercise to give me that endorphin and whatever else rush, my mind was seeking something to look forward to each day, and it ended up being food. Add to that I was just coming off of a long and difficult diet and it was the perfect storm for me to get fatter than I wanted.

I had hoped to maintain a lean bodyfat level after a week or so of eating whatever and not working out immediately after the show, but a week has turned into almost three. Bleh. I wanted to stay lean also not so much for vanity, but so that the next show I do goes even smoother. The longer you stay at a certain bodyfat the more comfortable your body becomes there, so I knew that if I could stay pretty cut then when it was time to diet, me one week out before the Excalibur could be me six weeks out from the next show, and I’d have a bunch of time to get really dialed in.

This was my “treat yourself like a pro” part of the goals. Take time off to mentally and physically rest and heal like you should, but treat it like a profession and all that goes along with it, which is eating clean even in the off season…. I said goodbye to that a few donuts and sausage egg mcmuffins ago. The health part was made a double failure by being on crutches and that irritating my elbow that had been getting better through the prep! Being all hunched over and crutching around and laying on the couch hasn’t helped the tightness in my back and neck I’ve been working to get healthy as well, so overall I’m just a mess right now.

Oh well, what’re you gonna do? Christmas was awesome and the year ended strong, and I learned a thing or two during these last couple weeks.

My goals for 2018 will be those three I just mentioned, as well as just putting in the effort to do the little things right. I’ve only got a couple things written on a piece of paper I put in my fridge – “give the extra 10% that will make all the difference”, and “ did you…. heal your elbow today? Did you…. heal your back?” I’m going to add a little check mark each time I do my exercises ???

Hope everyone has a great last couple days of 2017. It could be the last couple days of 2017 you’ll ever have……?
