Tucker Loken – Power building contest prep(?)

Dear friends,

It’s been a month since my last update, and it was supposed to look like the rest of them – a nice intro on what Brian, Danny and myself are working on, then my weekly bodyweight, Big 3 weight, diet numbers and a synopsis of the week with a sample workout below. That didn’t happen though. I had a great week and felt my strength coming back and body was making changes as usual. I had lost a couple lbs and was right on track for a show to do in the end of April.

It was my deload week coming up, and I started feeling foggy headed and tired so I took a few extra days off, which turned into a week, which turned into another week when I started getting fevers off and on. I woke up one day after about two weeks of it and felt pretty much fine and thought that would be the week I get back to it. Wrong. That night I started shivering and got so foggy headed it was hard to walk around. The following week was one of the strangest illnesses I’ve had. I ran a consistent fever every night for 8 days straight ranging from 101.5 to 103.5 each time. I had crazy body aches all over, head aches, the works. Luckily no sore throat or nausea or any of that, so I was spared to some degree. This marks week 5, and I’ve still got a little swelling in my joints and body parts, but overall the bulk of the virus seems to be gone.

I wouldn’t have made such a big deal out of this, if it hadn’t come on the heels of another disastrous illness that got me mid way through my last plans to do a show in the fall. Having a mono like virus for over 3 months, and then this for a month means that in the last 6 months, I’ve only had about 2 and half months not being sick. I went to the doctor several time and got all sorts of tests run, and they couldn’t find anything wrong with me. I didn’t even test positive for the flu…. Although they did tell me if I get crazy sick again anytime soon they’ll send me to the infectious disease department, so I’ve got that to look forward to.

I haven’t written an update in a while because I had a real mental block about trying to write one of these, because frankly it’s just kind of embarrassing to tell people that I may have to pull out of another show because I got sick again. We all know the people that declare they are going to do a show every year and then back out after a month each time because something happened with work, family, life etc.

However! I don’t plan on being one of those people just yet. I maintained my level of body fat pretty well over the course of being sick, by just choosing to stick to the diet for the most part besides a couple of the really rough days when soup or other goodies were all I wanted. I decreased the amounts accordingly, kept eating clean, and basically just let myself be hungry here and there. I’ve lost almost 20 lbs, but it was worth it so that I didn’t get fat in the process. I’ll see how this week goes and talk with Noel and see if he thinks a 4-5 week prep is possible, and if it is, it’ll be a fun experiment to see how I can do starting from scratch and only having a month to get ready. I’m not sure if I’ll even be able to follow through, and I certainly won’t look as good as if I had a full prep period to get ready, but I’m hoping to turn the lemons into lemonade and hop on stage in April still.

Stay tuned!
