Tucker: Quality Time

I’ve taken a lot more time off than I expected. I was hoping to take a week off, then get back to it at a moderate intensity and just get some good pumps 3-4 days a week, eat clean and stay lean. I got side tracked with my foot/ankle being hurt, didn’t workout, didn’t eat clean and got fat.

So time for plan B…. but athletics (or art or whatever you’d call bodybuilding) is always about plan B. Things rarely go exactly as we planned. I’m still being light on my bad foot but I’m off crutches and it’s getting better each day. I won’t be running any sprints in the sand or doing anything that requires stability for a while longer, but it’s nice to be walking around normally for the most part.

Now that the initial anxiety of wanting to get in the gym, wondering when I’ll be healed up has worn off, I’m finally taking some quality time to rest like I had wanted to last month. Being on crutches for that got my elbow that was on the up and up pretty angry, so I’m only working out here and there right now and letting everything rest. I figure if I treat the elbow like I treated my foot, and stay away from anything that pops or cracks and treat it as if it’s a more serious injury than it is… it’ll get better quick.

So far so good. I’m still doing little workouts in my apartment complex gym, which is actually really nice with a bunch of machines, dumbbells and even a couple barbells, but just making sure I’m going light. I’m doing lots of shoulder raises and cable pec flies and stuff like that to move some blood but not irritate anything.

With my spare time I’ve been catching up on some of the stuff I missed while dieting and on crutches. I’ve gone and hung out with a couple friends, gone out to eat s few times with Julie, taken the dog to the park… and napped on the couch with Snoop as pictured above. I’m at the point where as long as I keep doing what I’m doing I won’t get a whole lot worse in body composition but I’ll heal up and be able to address my nicks and dings that need to be addressed, so mentally I’m pretty relaxed about taking another week to 10 days before getting a more serious workout in.

I’ve also taken on 5 more people for either off season or prep coaching and I’m totally full as far as time is concerned, so it’s been really nice to have the evenings free to knock the plans and get work done on the powerbuilding book and some other things I’ve wanted to work on. I’m always a bit of a busy body so really utilizing that down time to just chill has been important for me, and I can say so far I’ve done a good job of not going crazy not being able to work out.

I’m also back on a cleaner diet and it feels GREAT! I’m finally over a lot of my cravings, and besides a couple spare Oreos someone brought in at work the other day I’ve been pretty good. I can already see a change in body composition over the last week which is also very encouraging.

That’s it for now. Stay happy and healthy!
