Winner feels

Well….. I won the thing. Who would have ever guessed that? I couldn’t be more surprised by the way everything turned out. I was happy to just be there, I slept easy that night because I felt like I had already won what I wanted to accomplish – just getting on stage after all the roadblocks I’d had over the last year.

I’m so freakin fortunate to have good people in my corner – Noel Fuller, or Obi-Noel Kenobi as I call him did a superb job of helping me get ready for this show. The rest of the Power rack gang was supportive and awesome like usual and it was always helpful to know they’ve got my back.

As far as sequence of events, I did the morning show, had a burger because I kept going flat which filled me out well, and then hopped up for the night show. We did our routines and then they presented the trophy to me for my class, and then again for the overall. I stayed for the rest of the show and got to talk with some of the promoters, guest posers and all those guys and they gave me some good insight on the industry and the next steps to take.

I was in high spirits that night, but boy did I crash the next day. I just woke up tired and grumpy. I was drained from the stimulation of the weekend and just wanted to be left alone. I went to Costco and got all the clean eating essentials and just went about a normal day, but it all felt much difference having that validation in the back of my head.

I had some friends over that night to enjoy some pizza and a couple beers and relax. They were all so supportive and helpful during this process for me so hosting was the least I could do. It’s those brief times of normalcy where you’re not worried about gains, diet, training etc that make all the difference in keeping you happy and balanced long term, as well as making you grateful for the discipline of the training and diet. Pizza and beers are fun, but they aren’t an every day or even an every week thing. I’ll be eating clean again today and I’ll have a few more special cheats I’ve been looking forward to over the next week and then it’ll be back to a pretty standard clean off season diet.
