Zane Geeting, 4 weeks out

I’m currently training for the RPS Northern KY Throwdown, Sept 16th 2017. This will be my first raw meet in 10+ years. Dan Dalenberg is handling my training and Tucker Loken my diet. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do without the equipment.

This week was a strange one for me, super high stress at work, a lot going on at the farm, and an even busier than normal week in general. The combo of high stess, missed sleep, and the accompanying fatigue did some bad things for me. I chose to switch my Tuesday night upper session from a heavy one, to a deload, and stick with my heaviest deadlift of the cycle on Friday, which turned out to be a mistake. More on that bleow…

8/22/2017, Tuesday night upper training

This was supposed to be my heaviest upper session of meet prep, but I knew there was no way that was going to happen after the way my week was going. I chose to flip flop with next week and keep this one light instead. Here’s what I did:

Warm up

Side laterals, Scarecrows, Bird dogs, McGills, Cat/Camel

Floor press

Warmed up to 235×5 singles

Front raises

4 sets of 12 reps, light

Band pushdowns

100 total reps with a light band

Lat pulldowns

4 sets of 12 reps, light

  • That was it, a good deload session followed by some good food and rest.

8/25/2017, Friday night lower training

The goal of the night was to work up to an opener and 2nd attempt on the deadlift after some light squatting. I had done my best to get the stress down, and get some good sleep the days leading up to this session, but I was only marginally successful there. Here’s how it went:

Warm up

BW squat, Goblet squat, Hip airplanes, Donkey kicks, McGills, Cat/Camel

Squat

Warmed up to 330×3

Deadlift

Warmed up to 535×1, then… 585×1, 625×1, 675×1, and 715 x miss. (this was very disappointing as I expected it to be an easy, small PR)

Leg extensions

4 sets of 12-15 reps

Bent rows

Warmed up to 315×2 (something tore in my lat/teres area on the right side. Pop, sharp pain, swelling. This is an area that I’ve injured several times in the past. My hope is that it was just some fascia or scar tissue from one of the old injuries letter go. Time will tell)

  • Shut it down here and headed home. I had 2 long work days on the farm ahead of me, and my head was in a bad place after the way that the whole week unfolded. On to the next one.

Zane Geeting

Zane Geeting is a pro multi-ply powerlifter with best lifts of a 935 squat, 625 bench, and 765 deadlift. He is coming back to competitive PL after a year and a half layoff that was a result of several serious injuries including a severe rupture of the right pec that could not be repaired. Zane has an extremely busy schedule that would make most people quit before Friday. He works 55+ hours a week as a finance manager. As a renaissance man, he is also currently restoring a 140 year-old farmhouse and maintaining a hobby farm. Despite all this, Zane still finds time to train 2-3 times per week, as well as coach other lifters.
