Zane Geeting, Arnold Classic Meet Prep Week 7 with VIDEO

I’m currently training for the XPC Finals at the 2018 Arnold Classic Sports Festival. I’ll be competing in the 198 lbs class, raw with wraps and looking to increase my best total of 1720 in that division. Daniel Dalenberg is handling my 2x per week training split, and Tucker Loken my diet.

Back to some real training, feeling fresh from last weeks deload. This was a good week of training with some heavy 2 board work on the upper day, and some heavy deadlifting on the lower day. My deadlift has been off for the better part of a year now, and a real struggle this training cycle. This session was very important to see what was going to happen to my shot at a solid total at the Arnold. Here’s a couple videos of how that went…

Weights are 605×2 from the floor, and 645×1 from a low block, this is typically a hard height for me as I lose some of my leg drive from it.

This one is 695×1 from the same block height. This was rough, an RPE of 10 if you ask me, lol. But if things go as they have in the past, I’ll be even stronger than this from the floor come meet day. Needless to say this was a huge relief.

Here’s what I did with the rest of the week…

1/23/2018, Tuesday night upper training

The goal on this night was to hit triples at an RPE of 8 off the 2 board, which is a rough spot for me, its kind of a transition point so I lose my hard drive off the chest. Here’s what I did…

Warm up

Side laterals, DB OHP, Scarecrows, Cat/Camel, Bird dogs, Push ups, McGills

Bench

Warmed up to 285×3 from the chest, then added the 2 board

2 board

325×3, 355×3, 375x3x2 sets

Incline bench

205x8x5 sets

Front raises

4×12

DB bench

5×5

Lat pulldowns

5×8

Hammer curl/Band pressdown SS

5×15/15

  • Great session. Really happy with how this went.

1/27/2018, Saturday night lower training

This was the session that the above videos came from. The goal was to pull a last warm up for 2 from the floor, then an opener, and possibly a 2nd from blocks. You can probably make out what was what from the videos. Here’s how the whole session broke down…

Warm up

BW squat, Donkey kicks, Cat/Camel, McGills, Glute bridges, More BW squatting

Deadlift

Warmed up to 565×1, then… 605×2

Low block pulls

645×1 and 695×1

Pause squat

5 sets of 5 very light, 315 ish

Bent rows

5 sets of 8

DB shrugs

5 sets of 15

  • That was it. The gym was closing and I got in most of what I was supposed to. The important take away is that I can pull decent, not as good as I would like, but well enough to have a shot at what I want on the total.

He is coming back to competitive PL after a year and a half layoff that was a result of several serious injuries including a severe rupture of the right pec that could not be repaired. Zane has an extremely busy schedule that would make most people quit before Friday. He works 55+ hours a week as a finance manager. As a renaissance man, he is also currently restoring a 140 year-old farmhouse and maintaining a hobby farm. Despite all this, Zane still finds time to train 2-3 times per week, as well as coach other lifters.
