Zane Geeting, Friday night squat and pull training

I am currently training to make a comeback this spring. Between now and then I’ll be doing Dan Dalenberg’s push/pull meet here in MI this January.

So, we’re picking up with me now being on 12 straight days of work. I got to the gym around 8:45 pm, roughly 14 hours into my day. Overall I was feeling good since I got some extra rest when I couldn’t make it in for Tuesday’s session. Because I missed that session, I decided to squat and pull both in this one. Here’s how it went:

General warm up-

Bird dogs

McGills

BW squat

Belt only Squat-

warm ups, followed by…

440×3

490×3

510×3

530×2

I was a little forward on the set with 530, so I called it good after the double instead of pushing a 3rd rep. This is around the 85% range for me right now, so there is no reason to be pushing reps with poor form.

Belt only Deadlift-

warm ups, followed by…

425×5

515×3

605×2

635×2

This would be around 90% of a raw pull for me right now. I pulled these on a fat, stiff bar.

Reverse hyper-

3 sets of 10-12 up to 315

JL planks-

3 sets at 30 seconds each

That was all of it. Dirk, Brandon Crabill and I got in a good session, then hit the road. If all feels well, I’ll go up into the 90% range on the squat next week, and 95% or so on deadlift the following week. Stay tuned for that. Day 13 of work in the morning, then I finally get a day off, to catch up on things around the farm/house. Yeah buddy.

Zane Geeting

Zane Geeting is a pro multi-ply powerlifter with best lifts of a 935 squat, 625 bench, and 765 deadlift. He is coming back to competitive PL after a year and a half layoff that was a result of several serious injuries including a severe rupture of the right pec that could not be repaired. Zane has an extremely busy schedule that would make most people quit before Friday. He works 55+ hours a week as a finance manager. As a renaissance man, he is also currently restoring a 140 year-old farmhouse and maintaining a hobby farm. Despite all this, Zane still finds time to train 2-3 times per week, as well as coach other lifters.
