Zane Geeting, Friday night squat training with video

I’m currently training for the APF MI fall open this October. I’m still on my busy summer time split, so I’m only training 2x per week, so far things are going better than expected and my strength is good. The only thing that’s unsure at this point is whether I will get my gear broken in on time.

This week the plan was to get back into my suit and briefs and handle some heavier weight than last time I had it on. I was basically playing it by feel, here’s how it went:

Warm up

Bird dogs, McGill’s, Cat/Camel, Fat man rows and push ups, BW squat, Kettlebell swings

Squat

Warm up to 420×1 raw, 600×1 in briefs, then… 710x1x2 sets, and 800x1x2 sets (video)

  • On the first rep here I started too far forward which makes it very hard for me to hit depth. The second rep was better, but still not quite right. I’ll be working on keeping a better upright posture next week. You can see in the second video, when Brandon cued me to get my head back, I corrected mid way, which helped but I was already in a sub-prime position. Overall I am happy with the way the weight moved considering this, and the fact that I didn’t have knee wraps on. I also have a lot of tightening I can do with the suit, as it was very loose here.

From there I finished up with:

Reverse hyper/Calve raise/Machine shrug circuit

3 high rep sets of each.

Hammer curls

3 sets of 15

  • That was the end of it. Overall this was a good session. I just need to work on posture and depth in the coming weeks. I’ll also make sure to wrap up and get used to those new Inzer grippers.
