Zane Geeting, It lives, a long overdue update

I recently ran into some GI issues and wound up having my gallbladder yanked after a couple months of not being able to eat hardly anything and dealing with horrible abdominal pains. It took 3 hospitals, several doctors, and every GI test known to man to finally figure out what was going on, but I’m grateful they did, because I was pretty sure I was dying for a while there, lol. I’m currently small, weak, and recovering. My surgeon cleared me to start back at it, so I hit the gym.

Well, the farm is cranking for the summer now, we have over 100 animals on the ground, and that number will be increasing in the coming weeks. Meat chickens, layers, ducks, pigs, goats, etc. We’ll be producing a couple thousand lbs. of meat this year, and several thousand eggs. A small operation, but growing rapidly in the direction I want to take it. Because of this, my lifting is back down to 2 days per week for the summer and fall months. Here’s an idea of what the split will look like:

Day 1: Deadlift, overhead press, and accessories

Day 2: Squat, bench, and accessories

The volume on the main lifts will be higher than usual, and the accessory movements more limited. The goal here is to spend as much time as possible on the more valuable movements.

That being said, here’s what I did with week 1, day 1, back in the gym:

6/28/2016, Tuesday night Deadlift and OHP training

BW: 210

Warm up:

Bird dogs, McGill’s, Cat/Camel, Scarecrows, BW squat

Sumo DL, raw, beltless

warm ups, then… 425x6x4 sets

Standing OHP

warm ups, then… 165x6x4 sets

Rack rows

warm ups, then… 185×8, 235×8, 255×8

DB shrugs

100’s x20x3 sets

High rep EZ bar curls

bar for 1 set of 50 reps

  • That was it. The whole session was an hour and a half including the warm up and some cool down. I pounded a shake of berries and whey on the way home, then ate 10 egg whites and 2 big bowls of rice krispies with agave nectar when I got there. Finished up some animal chores, showered, and hit the hay around 12:30am. I’ll be back in the gym Friday night for squat and bench work. The weights are light, and I’m weak, but it’s not as bad as I had expected.

Zane Geeting is a pro multi-ply powerlifter with best lifts of a 935 squat, 625 bench, and 765 deadlift. He is coming back to competitive PL after a year and a half layoff that was a result of several serious injuries including a severe rupture of the right pec that could not be repaired. Zane has an extremely busy schedule that would make most people quit before Friday. He works 55+ hours a week as a finance manager. As a renaissance man, he is also currently restoring a 140 year-old farmhouse and maintaining a hobby farm. Despite all this, Zane still finds time to train 2-3 times per week, as well as coach other lifters.
