Zane Geeting, Meet Prep Week 1 with Video

I’m currently in a meet prep cycle for the 2018 XPC Finals at the Arnold Classic Sports Festival. Daniel Dalenberg is handling my 2x per week training split, and Tucker Loken my diet. My goal is to best my raw total in the 198 class.

Week one got off to a rocky start. I wound up with a nasty head and chest cold that left me feeling really fatigued. I did manage to make it to the gym for both sessions, but I didn’t do nearly as much as I would have liked. Here’s video of a couple of my top sets of squat

Weight is 510, I moved them pretty well, but I was struggling getting my air and recovering between sets. Here’s how the whole week broke down:

12/12/2017, Tuesday night upper session

The goal here was to do some triples off of a 2 board in the RPE 7 range, followed by incline press and some accessories. Here’s what I did:

Warm up

Bird dogs, McGills, Cat/Camel, Push ups, Scarecrows, Side laterals

Bench

Warmed up to 240×5, then added 2 board for: 300×3, and 330x3x2 sets

Incline bench

5 sets of 8 with 185

  • At this point I was already worn out so I chose the accessories that I felt were of the most importance and knocked those out

Front raises

4 sets of 12 reps

Lat pulldowns

5 sets of 8-10 reps

  • That was the end of this session. I’m glad I was able to get in the compound work if nothing else.

12/15/2017, Friday night lower session

This is the session with video above. The goal here was 3 sets of 5 around 75% on squat and 3 sets of 3 around the same percentage on DL, followed by several compound accessory movements. Dan and I both knew that this would be very demanding going into it. Unfortunately the sickness got the better of me and I had to cut a lot of the work out of this session. Here’s what I did…

Warm up

BW squat, Banded GM, Banded Cat/Camel, McGills, Donkey kicks, Glute bridges, More BW squatting

Squat

Warmed up to 420×5, then… 510x5x2 sets

  • I was smoked at this point, just really struggling to recover, not able to breathe. I moved on to some light accessories and hit the road

Chest supported rows

5 sets of 8 reps

Lat pulldowns

5 sets of 8-10 reps

  • That’s it. On to week 2, hopefully sans head and chest cold.
