Zane Geeting, the last 2 training sessions

I’m currently recovering from gall bladder surgery. I’m significantly lighter than usual and have spent very little time in the gym for the last 2 months. The recovery process is coming along well though, and I am back to a normal 2 day per week training schedule which is normal for me this time of year. I’m starting back slow and have had to make some diet adjustments, but I’m feeling good so far.

This entry is the 2nd session of week 1 and the 1st session of week 2. I can already tell a difference in my strength and endurance since the surgery. Very thankful that the trouble seems to be behind me.

7/1/2016, Friday night squat and bench training

This was my first time squatting in 4 weeks and benching in 5, I started very light and kept the session short. Here’s what I did:

Warm up

Bird dog’s, McGill’s, Cat/Camel, BW squat, Scarecrows, Side laterals

Squat

warm ups, then… 330x6x3 sets, and 390×8

Bench

warm ups, then… 225x6x4 sets

  • That was actually it. Just getting back in the groove of things. I wound up driving home, eating, showering, then driving up north to my Grandparents cabin that night. I spent the weekend up there with my family and had a great time.

7/6/2016, Wednesday night Deadlift and OHP training (Week 2)

This session was done alone. I was a day late on things because of the holiday weekend and everything I have going on with work, the farm, etc. So I opted to go Wed instead of my usual Tues night session. Here’s what I did:

Warm up

Bird dog’s. McGill’s, Cat/Camel, BW squat

Deadlift

Warm ups, then… 405×5, and 465x5x4 sets

Standing OHP

Warm ups, then… 175x5x4 sets

Rack rows

Warm up set, then… 225×8, and 265x8x2 sets

Machine shrugs

350×85 total reps, over 3 sets

  • That’s it, my sessions are going to stay this short for a while. 4-5 movements total with the bulk of the volume being done on the main lifts. I can already tell a huge difference from week 1 here, more strength, more endurance. I like the way things are getting started and I’m hoping that it keeps rolling this way. I’ll start getting video again this coming week. Stay tuned.

Zane Geeting

Zane Geeting is a pro multi-ply powerlifter with best lifts of a 935 squat, 625 bench, and 765 deadlift. He is coming back to competitive PL after a year and a half layoff that was a result of several serious injuries including a severe rupture of the right pec that could not be repaired. Zane has an extremely busy schedule that would make most people quit before Friday. He works 55+ hours a week as a finance manager. As a renaissance man, he is also currently restoring a 140 year-old farmhouse and maintaining a hobby farm. Despite all this, Zane still finds time to train 2-3 times per week, as well as coach other lifters.
