Zane Geeting, Training from the week of 1/2/17 with DL video

I’m currently training for the XPC Deadlift Bash on the main stage at the Arnold Classic, March 5th 2017. I’ve always wanted to get a chance to lift on the stage at the expo center, and I’m very excited to have a chance to do it. My goal here will be to pull at least 800 lbs.

This weeks training went quite well, below is a video of my top 2 sets on DL day. I had planned on doing 9 total reps at 605, straps down with my thin 7mm belt. I also wanted to keep the RPE at 8 or lower, so I figured 3 sets of 3 would be the ticket. After my first set I knew that I could definitely push it more than that… this was very promising. I will slowly add more gear (briefs, straps up, thicker belt) as the training cycle progresses. I chose touch and go reps here because I like the time under tension with moderate weights, depending how my starting position improves in the coming weeks, I may stick with these or I may transition into dead stop reps, it will just depend on what I feel is more beneficial to me. Here’s the video…

Again, happy with these, we’ll see how it goes 2 weeks from now when I bump the weight up into the 645-655 range. Aside from that, here is what I did for training throughout the week…

1/4/2017, Wednesday night Deadlift training

For this session my wife and I trained with Dirk and Garett, everyone had a good night and should be really happy with what they did. Tuesday (my wife) pulled 295 for three or four sets of 4 reps and looked really strong with it. She should hit a nice DL PR in the coming months. We trained at 8:00pm, here’s the breakdown of the session:

Warm up

Stationary bike, Bird dogs, McGills, Cat/Camel, BW squat, Light stretching

Sumo DL

warmed up to 315×5, added suit bottom and thin belt: 405×5, 505×3, 605×3, and 605×6

DB row

3 sets of 15 reps

DB shrugs

3 sets of 20 reps

EZ bar curls

3 sets of 12 reps

Neck machine

3 sets of 20 reps

  • That was it. My right lat cramped up a little bit after my last set of pulls so I didn’t do my chins as I normally would have, no biggie. Pull again in 2 weeks.

1/7/2017, Saturday night Squat and Bench training

Haha, what a nightmare. I worked Sat morning, which isn’t unusual, but I only brought enough food w me to last til 3pm when I was scheduled to be out. Of course we wound up being very busy, which is a good thing for the pocket book, but not so good for training when you don’t get out of work til closer to 6pm. By the time I got home it was close to 7pm and I was down a meal and a half, and the way I have my diet set up, these were relatively big meals vs the 2 small ones that I got in earlier (protein shake, some venison and peas, no carbs) so I got in a big meal, and got sick. Ever since I got my gallbladder removed if I go too long without eating, then try to put some serious calories down, I get sick. So, an hour and a half later I was feeling brave enough to go to the gym. By the time we drove there (the wife and I), warmed up, and got squatting, it was 10pm. Needless to say, I wasn’t feeling super strong, so this is what I did:

Warm up

Bird dogs, McGills, Cat/Camel, BW squat, Light stretching

SS bar squat

warmed up to 335×5, then 385x5x3 sets (these felt sooo much harder than they should have)

Bench

warmed up to 235×10, then 255x8x3 sets

Wide pulldowns

3 sets of 15 reps

Calve raises

3 sets of 20 reps

Machine shrugs

3 sets of 25 reps

Neck w head harness

3 sets of 15-20 reps

  • That was it, lame lame session. Sore as hell in the days following. Hopefully this week brings a better one. Shit happens, still a good week overall considering my current goals.

As a renaissance man, he is also currently restoring a 140 year-old farmhouse and maintaining a hobby farm.
