26 Jan Brian Carroll – Week 4, day 1 – “Path to the WR total at 242”
Notice the title of the log
Currently training for the XPC Arnold weekend March 7
This is NO DISRESPECT to lifters like current and former 242 greats Juha, Panora, Hoff or ANYONE at all. It’s in reach and I want the total record, especially since I was pretty close a few months back. I’ve actually chased it on and off for the better part of 10 years.
I’m not predicting shit, calling my shot or anything like that. The fact is that I’m pushing that 2700+ at 242. Will I get it? Let’s see. I’ve hit it quite a few times at 275 while not being 100%. Either way, I’m on the path toward it, I just hope I get there, and will log pretty much everything about the process. This will also keep my accountable to make sure I’m doing what I need to be doing.
Arnold is about 6 weeks away or so from now, give or take.
This cycle is flying by like nothing I’ve ever seen.
Feeling good about training and my goals overall, but have to execute and step up to the plate.

Great environment and training session on Saturday. I had a guest in town, Danny Bellmore who’s a great lifter at 165 with an 1800+ total and 655 pull. We worked on a few things and dialed them in.
Byrd was taking some big weights as he preps to do well at the XPC in the 275 class.
Lab Rat was PRing like crazy on the squat.
I took openers and last warm-ups.
6 weeks out – BW was 263 on Sat am with a little bit of bloat.
Training
Squat
up to 650 in briefs….
750 straps down
930×1 – around last warm-up
1020×1 – around an opener
Dead
425×1
515×1
655×2 – last warm-up
705×1 – opener
Rolling planks – lots
Mcgill crunch – lots
DONE.
Great training session. I still have work to do on my Squat for sure, but first time over 850 this cycle, so it was a good session. I’m very happy with the progress in the dead as it’s come a long way.
I’m going to bench heavy at about the same range as the deadlift with some boards tonight. I’ll be interested in seeing how it goes as I haven’t really tested it at all yet.
These next few weeks are very important.
Body is feeling great – the best it has in many years. I had a bit of a junk food binge this weekend, but not too bad.
