So Ive bought and read 10/20/life (good read, love the concept, still struggling with applying RPE correctly, but liking it), and checked this Q&A forum, I dont think this has been brought up so I’m asking it here. For combo/ jumbo training, have you considered doing making one day a heavy sq/bench day with some assistance, and the second day heavy deadlift / light bench (or shoulder) day , with the option of a 3rd “fluff n buff” day ? Or are there serious flaws in that idea that I haven’t thought of. Just curious if you had an opinion on this idea.
Thanks for the question.
I’ve thought of a lot of things but at the end of the day I have created an approach that gives you the tools to adjust to your needs, whatever they may be.
My reply to your question would be simply why? And if you have a good why, then you can try this split out with the guidelines provided in the book. If you do, please let me know how it goes.
Thank you
This is something I want to try with a guy that I train with.
He has an issue with bicep tendinitis and almost always a couple days after straight bar squatting, his elbows ache and it has a hugely negative impact on that weeks bench training.
Ideally, we will find a long term solution to getting his arms better and not having this problem at all. In the short term, I’d like to try having him bench after squatting and then pull later in the week. He will lose the benefit of having 7 days between SQ/DL days, but the ability to put together better bench training will likely outweigh that negative.
