15 Jan Tucker: Do The Twist
Ok, it’s been a few exciting weeks – I spent time with family out in Chicago for Christmas. We are, drank and were generally merry, and I got to rough house with my 3 year old nephew. New Years in LA was a blast and work has been crazy since the start of the new year, but in a good way.
I didn’t get to train as seriously as I wanted over the last few weeks, but I’ve made some progress nonetheless. The last time I left off I was working on unscrewing my corkscrew posture. I’m still working on that and it’s been going well with my upper torso and thoracic strength. I met with my PT, Bradley, the other day and he was very impressed with my increased strength and mobility twisting to my bad side.
Our next mission is to work on my hips – my QL, psoas, iliacus, and even rectus femoris on my left side are all way over activated, which is yanking my hip up. We’re starting simple with some hip rotations on the ground to each side, trying to keep my shoulders pinned and my hips level and correct muscles activated while doing it.Â
It really is amazing how you can be assigned the right exercises, but if you’re not aware while you’re doing it, or given proper directions, you won’t get much out of them. I remember a PT in the past having me do some of these, but it wasn’t effective at all because I didn’t know what I was supposed to be working on. Luckily I’m a little older, wiser and more aware of my body now, and we’ve figured out the right cues I need to do it correctly.
And we have witty banter during the sessions which helps…. See the video below.
