29 Nov Brian Carroll | Week 2, day 1 | Squat + DL
Thanks to CaptainJacked.com and Inzernet.com for supporting my lifting career
I’m in the middle of another 3-week offseason training wave and this is how it will go:
Week 1 – squat triples with SSB, block pulls for deads (throughout), second-week doubles, and the final week of the 3-week wave will be singles. I have been (and will be) starting with floor press on bench day, then going to equipped bench in my SDP (following the same rep scheme as above squat/dl day) as I really work on dialing in the details I’ve missed over the years. All RPE will be 6-7 and no higher than 8 on week 3. *I will be adding in elbow and knee sleeves along with wrist wraps for this cycle.
Normal warm-up as outlined in 10/20/Life (customized for my day to day needs)
Squat w/SSB – doubles to RPE 7
Top set of 475×2
Deadlift 2″ block pull to RPE 7
top set of 545×2
Belt Pause squat: 3×8
Nothing else.. I was still a little winded and out of shape from taking the prior week off from the teeth extraction. This took more of a toll on my body than I realized. So I didn’t want to push too hard and get sick as this was my first true day back training.
Weights felt good, though. Next squat/DL session I’ll be pushing for 525×2 or so (since I missed a week with surgery, I’ll do the same session 2 weeks in a row), then the real week 3 – a single in the high 5’s followed by a deload and evaluation. For me, the SSB is great because I suck at it. It wants to take me out of the efficient squat groove I have while using a straight bar and makes me fight hard to maintain it!
I plan to add my belt back when I get over 600lbs. Then I’ll decide when I will add Predator briefs back into the mix, then eventually Inzer Black Beauty knee wraps.
Here’s a turn back the clock moment – 11 years ago. 1030 at 220 at the WPC Worlds/WPO Semi-finals in Lake George, NY
