02 Aug Massage Therapy RANT!
Remember: I Was Once a Massage Therapist
In this rant, I will introduce the topic for next week’s video: massage therapy for the lower back.Â
Having worked as a massage therapist for a decade, from 2003 to 2013, I possess a thorough understanding of massage therapy. I personally love getting a massage; when I was competing I would get 2 of them a week, sometimes more.Â
My extensive experience in this field has also provided me with a deep knowledge of human anatomy, which continues to benefit me in my current profession, particularly in addressing lower back pain.
From my years of experience, I have observed that massage therapy is not universally effective. Throughout my career, I encountered numerous clients—some who experienced remarkable relief after sessions, while others found their conditions worsened despite undergoing the same treatment protocol.
Why is this?
This disparity puzzled me for years, but I have since come to understand the critical importance of a comprehensive assessment before initiating massage therapy. For some individuals, massage therapy may indeed serve as a transformative solution, while for others, it could lead to a significant deterioration of their condition. It depends on the nature of the injury; the level and the tissues of the spine affected.Â
In next week’s full article I will give my thoughts on how to know if massage therapy will help your back pain. Just know that many times you are only treating the symptoms.
