Team Samson Powerlifting- The Eagle Has Landed. 4/09 – 4/13 Training.

Adam Driggers is keeping his retirement casual by still out-lifting active lifters on occasion. Shane Ford is bouncing between work, life and training, trying to find a meet. Filipe Gusmao is gearing up for his first meet since surgery to repair a torn triceps.

The gym is very busy at the moment. With Brian training for the RPS U.S. Open, and Jason and Filipe training for RPS Redemption in south Florida, we have our hands full. We also have a pretty full gym with Channing being back as well as Paul Key, we have an incredibly diverse array of lifters in our stable.

Adam Driggers

With Adam having been focused on aspects in his life aside form the gym, it looks like he will be getting back into the swing of things and hopefully returning full time. With that being said, the guy has taken almost 2 full months off and doesn’t look like he’s missed a beat. He hit some box squat work this week hitting 290 lbs plus blue bands for a set of 3, then on Monday in an Inzer SDP that doesn’t really fit him he hit 550 lbs to a 3 board for a pair of reps. Adam finished the week pulling 405 lbs for 3. It’s nice to see him back full time at the gym.

Filipe Gusmao

Filipe is taking a different route for his meet this time around. He’s added in a second day of accessory bench, as well as a second squat day. So far, it looks as if it’s a good choice for him. He responds well to the volume and lifting moderately week to week isn’t getting beat up by it.

Squat: A nice, easy 605 reverse band squat, and 515 block pull double. Filipe’s squat is looking stronger than ever before.

Bench: With coming off of triceps reattachment surgery, taking it slow and easy was the preference with bench. Despite that it’s still looking decently strong for him, hitting 315, and 330 lbs for two singles.

Shane Ford

Outside the gym, my life has been incredibly busy. With a couple of big changes recently, my plate has gotten a lot less full. I’ve got Byrd running me through an offseason right now, and as soon as it’s finished, I’ll be looking for a meet.

Bench: Unfortunately with my work schedule the way it was, my weeks are all screwed up. This week is 3’s on the squat and deadlift, and a deload on the bench. I’ve been pushing my meager bench pretty hard as of late, and haven’t taken anything under 4 reps. I’m very much looking foreward to hitting some solid numbers.

Deadlift: My squat and deadlift training are a bit different this time around. Jon has me getting in some gear every fourth week, this is a raw week however. 455 lbs x 3 at a 7 RPE. I clearly screwed the pooch on the first rep.
