Team Samson Powerlifting-WPC Open Challenge Meet Recap- Channing Doyle

[wa-wps]

Adam Driggers is keeping his retirement casual by still out-lifting active lifters on occasion. Shane Ford is training to compete at the SoFit Expo here in Jacksonville Fl. Filipe Gusmao is going through an offseason cycle prior to competing again.

September 28 & 29, our home town, Jacksonville , Florida played host to the SoFit Expo. The Expo brought CrossFit, The Strongest Woman in the World, The WPC Open Challenge, and several running events. Channing and I both competed at the WPC Open Challenge, directed by Wayne Pullem, and located in the beautiful Prime Osbourn Convention Center, in Downtown Jax. Here is Channing’s meet write up.

Almost bombed on squats missing my first two attempts for depth. I kept going up in weight anyways because of how easy they felt and knowing I wouldn’t be happy with anything but a small PR. I was being greedy, but it payed off. I nailed my third attempt with 727 lbs.

Bench, unfortunately, didn’t go so well. I missed an easy 408 on my second attempt for my ass coming up. I had planned on hitting something around 430 for another little PR, but couldn’t justify the gamble this time. If I missed I would be too far behind to make my desired total. I was freaking out in the warm up room and Brian had to calm me down. Took 408 again with no problems and three white lights.
Deads went surprisingly well. Since my squat has gone up so much my deadlift has seemed to have gone down. I chose a 666 deadlift for my second attempt to tie my PR total at a lighter weight class and secure a place on Michael Soong’s All Time Raw World Rankings at 198. I let Brian pick my third and he chose it perfect as usual with a 683. I don’t think I had another ounce in me.
At the end of the day I wound up with an 1818.8 lb total weighing in at 196.5 which ties me with 11th in the world. This surpasses the goal Cortney and I had set for me and I know she would have been very proud and ecstatic with the outcome.
